Default HELP: water in spare tire well!

Just bought a 2001 A6 4.2/sport susp. However, every time I wash it, water pools in the spare tire area. Anyone else had the same problem?
What can I do?

Thanks(!)

Default Figured out water entry problem

Thanks to some clues from the forum, I figured out the water problem; with water entering in to the spare tire well.

First off, I found related tips from Mainland Ming here:
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/alb...albumid=161789
-he said that tightening/cleaning the rear light assembly should help prevent the issue
- has photos to help explain how to replace rear light bulbs
- for the 2001 A6 quattro, removal of the tail light assembly is actually easier. Just remove the 4 bolts that hold it in by taking off the cover in the trunk. Here is a photo:

This said, the reason for the water entry was likely not the tail lights. Instead, there is a trim piece that surrounds the trunk opening.
The left side is "welded" in to place:

However, on my car, the RIGHT side appears to be cut or unfinished. Maybe the car was in a crash (though carfax doesn't think so). In any case, there was a large gap on the right side, directly in line with water flow that would come down from the right trunk area. I covered the hole with silicon and it appears that the problem is fixed. Photo:

I hope this is the final solution--and that other folks can benefit as well.

I think you just found out that CARFAX doesn't always have the entire truth about a particular car. A minor rear fender bender that the owner had repaired without involving an insurance company won't show up in CARFAX.

CARFAX sucks. I had a MAJOR accident with my previous A6, filed police report, went through insurance (I was at fault, as I rear ended SUV with tow-hitch mounted bike rack), over $9000 in repairs.

No worries, when I sold the car, full disclosure to the buyer. I showed the buyer the accident photos as well as the body shop teardown and step-by-step repair. He was satisfied...but also commented that it was not in the CARFAX report.

Here is the picture of the damage...
