Driveline clunk

About 4 times in the last month, I have experienced a jerk or clunk of varying intensity that seems to come from under the middle of the car. It occurrs on deceleration, and I don't believe that the transmission is downshifting at the time. The last time it happened, it was so violent, it felt like something was causing the rear wheels to hop. The only time I have ever experienced anything like this was in my old Subaru when I had different sized tires front and back and the driveline would "wind up" in 4wd when on dry pavement until it corrected itself by slipping the rear wheels. Kinda like that, only this only happens once at a time and very intermittently. The rest of the time I have no indications that a u joint might be bad, oranything lke that. Anybody ever experience anything similar?

Did you check the driveshaft? Sounds like it could be coming from there. I would look at the center support bearing of the driveshaft to see if it's broken.
