Default Help, just got 1st Audi and License plate lights don't work

I just purchased my first Audi A6, it's a 2001 Quattro. i discovered last night that the license plate lights don't work. So first thing this morning i head to auto zone to get new bulbs. I get home and put them in but to no avail nothing happens. Any ideas on what it could be? I'm open to any suggestions. Please lend me your wisdom.

Have you checked the fuse?

It is common for the contacts to rust and oxidize, make sure that the plastic didn't break off (where the screws go in). Clean the contacts off well, use some dialectric grease, and make sure that the two contacts from the bulb assembly actually touch the flat surface of the housing contacts. Sometimes, because you insert the bulb assembly at an angle, the contacts touch from the top, not flat against each other.

Well I tried cleaning them also... is there a way to replace the system?

Yes. About $30-$35 per side from the dealer, you get the whole assembly.

Thanks I went to the dealer and they ordered the parts for me. Hopefully this solves my problem, my brother seems to think there might be a broken wire someplace.
