Default Been away a looong time - thinking of getting another Cab

Hi everyone:

Not technically a newbie but thanks in advance for letting me join in here.

My wife bought a brand new '94 Cab fresh off the dealer floor and it was (still is) her favorite car ever. About 10 years ago some idiot in a pick up launched it off of a raised parking lot ramp and landed smack on top of the Audi (while it was empty) She's always wanted another one so I'm looking at a high mileage '98 with great body work and recent top but with some typical mechanical issues that I don't mind fixing.

One thing that could be a gotcha is that the power top doesn't work. I have no problem with complex electrical/hydraulic trouble shooting but wanted to ask if over the years there are any common causes or horror stories related to this problem. The current owner claims to not know what is wrong with it and thinks manual operation is OK.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ron

I've just had one completely apart and have a parts car in Cincinnati (that I am likely going to make a running car again)

a common issue is the trunk wiring - on either side of the trunk lid is a wire bundle that flexes every time the trunk opens and closes. If/when it gets weak and breaks you will have a variety of electrical issues. It can make the car think the trunk is open or at least not locked and the top wont work.

Use the search function here for "trunk wiring" and to look for top troubleshooting
