Default Timing belt time 😑

Hi as the title explains it , my car is almost going to reach 140.000 miles so im contemplating on getting a new timing belt . I am also thinking if its really that needed to change the water pump, cam seals and rollers as well ? Im a bit tight on money but i know its something you dont want to be cheap with so it doesnt bite you in the end. Thanks for the help

The recommended interval is 60K miles or 5 years. Disregard what the manual says. If the belt fails, you are looking at a $5K+ repair!!! Get it done immediately! I would not drive the car another inch, no joke. I would flatbed it to the shop. Forums are littered with posts of guys taking their Mk 1 to the shop for a belt change and it fails along the way. Most folks think the kit offered by Deiselgeek is the best; serpentine belt, timing belt, tensioner, water pump, etc.

After reading this forum - I started into it a couple days ago - its been fun - combination of instructions from this forum and ECS Tuning have been very helpful. I added to my tool collection in the process. I would say buy all your parts upfront.

probably an 8-10 hour job if you pay attention to instructions - you'll make it fine.

Clearly make your timing marks, pay attention to when you need to put the lower engine mount back in (before installing new water pump - it does not go in after like i did - had to pull new water pump back out and then put engine mount in - and then reinstall water pump.

Got the opportunity to clean off engine pretty well - nothing like 13 years of oil, and road crap off the bottom of engine. I am sure it will run faster now

Hopefully it has already been replaced once. They need to be done every 60, 70 k miles. Yes do the water pump and tensioner. Either one could take out your engine and the additional labor is minimal.
