Default repairs at 115k

So my car has been good to me I can't complain, but now it seems as if it is starting to fall apart. My EPC light was coming off and on and now I'm at the dealer and they are telling me I need a new fuel pump (which costs around $800). My question is two part: 1. At this mileage does it make sense to find a repair shop that will be cheaper and stop using the dealer? and 2. Have others had to replace the fuel pump at this mileage and if so, do you find that once it's fixed you don't have additional problems or is this the beginning of the end?

Default Knowing the tear and Quattro or FWD would help us answer

"year" not "tear". For manual trannies, there are a lot of owners with 150k+ on the original tranny, clutch included! If it is FWD, the valve body has been troublesome. Has your cluster been replaced yet? Many folks freshen their suspension around 100K. The gradual deterioration of the suspension is hard to notice but very apparent after freshening. I assume you've replaced the timing belt within the past 5 years or 50K miles. One thing I am seeing on several Mk 1 boards recently, including this one, is a substantial increase in weird electrical issues on early Mk 1s. It could indicate that the electronics will begin to die around 15 years of age.
