Default Cost to Respray Hood and Fenders on 2015 S3

Howdy, folks. I just got an estimate from a local shop to respray the hood and fenders on a 2015 Sepang Blue S3: $800 total. Doesn't seem too bad to me, and I've been pleased with work they did for a prior insurance claim on the same vehicle. What do you think ?

If no bodywork, that is a very reasonable cost. What prep work are they doing?

I had minor damage to the bumper that needed spraying and was quoted $550 from a quality shop. The $800 seems very reasonable to me.

I'm not sure what exactly is going on with the prep work. There is no body work being done, though. I'm just getting a respray due to a rather large number of stone chips I've accumulated from driving daily on the interstate. I think I'm going to be taking the scenic route to and from work for a while and get some 3M PPF applied once the paint and clear coat cure.

Had Xpel clear bra applied to the entire front clip of my 2015 S3 within a few months of ownership. Life saver. Seriously. Later added clear bra to the A pillars and rocker panels. Not only have I avoided stone chips but bugs and other crap washes off so much easier. Sorry you have to get your car resprayed.

I agree 100 % , I think the xpel front was one of the best investments we made in a car . Just for the ease of wiping off bugs alone . Using either the xpel or Chemical Guys clear detailer they wipe right off .

I had the entire front and mirrors covered , after reading your post I am going to look into the rocker panels and A pillars .

Wish I was aware of this stuff years ago !

Alloy07; the products have improved so much over the years. Think years past, wasn't as much of a consideration. This is the first car I've ever done this. My most expensive car to date and wanted to take good car of it. Researched quite a bit and got helpful information from this very forum! Place that did the install does work on many high end exotics. Those folks like to get the entire car covered with the material. A bit out of my price range.

My only compliant about the clear bra is that wax can collect along the edges depending on the wax you use. A real bear trying to clean that up. Other than that, I would recommend this to everyone wanting to avoid rock chips and make cleaning easier.

Default Try this!

I used to worry about wax buildup around the edges of the clear bra until I started using this instead:

My guess is that the prep work is more or less sanding down the bumper prior to repainting it. Not certain about the hood though.

my body shop does most of vw and audi's work. they guy who owns the body shop was telling me how he had to spend several thousand dollars to become vw/audi certified. on top of that, he had to spend about $30k to become audi aluminimum certified. just makes me wonder if there is anything special in the process of painting our alum hoods that your body shop may not be aware of. just thinking out loud.
