Radio Crackle driving with windows open

So when I drive my S3 with the windows open, I get an intermittent pop/crackle from the radio - I thought it was the speed sound control, but turned it off and it's still happens.

Any hear this too?

My old Jetta used to do the same thing, and I know they use the same sort of speaker design. I think it has to do with the pressure in the door changing, because my radio would never get loud enough without distortion with the windows down. It COULD possibly be a bad seal with the speaker to the door, but I just chalked it up to low wattage speakers that couldn't handle the volume

probably not related, but i had an after market pioneer nav unit in my old evo. had the same issue. i figured out that the mic, which was placed near the driver side window was on at all times or didn't shut off properly after a call. and the static was the wind hitting the mic and coming through the speakers.

i hope audi doesn't have a ghetto mic system like this.

So I did a little experiment - I tried all the media sources, Radio, CD and iPhone (via AMI cable) and Jukebox.

Strange outcome;

Seems like only the digital music file sources have the issue - the radio was cleaner with very little pops, and the CD was perfectly clean no issues at all.

I'm thinking sbruno may be on to something - the digital sound files require more preamp and amp - going to try the media files with an app that let's me control pre-amp.

Stand by...

Good idea, I've been trying with UP the sensitivity.

I played with the Preamp settings on my iPhone today and no change - still popped and cracked.

I'm wondering if the iPhone and its microphone might be doing something - going to turn it off and try again tomorrow.

So it's only the iPhone - some how it's creating this sound when I play ANY music from it, either bluetooth or through the AMI - I have it mounted on my dash, the AMI has a long lightening cable to go from the dash the AMI port.

All other sources don't have the issue.

Mostly solved - boring topic I know, but maybe there are some troubleshooting geeks out there that can appreciate this.
