Default Tried Snake oil for 2.7 oil consumption issues

After addressing all the usual oil leak issues with valve cover gaskets, tensioner seals and cam caps, I was still using just shy of a quart every 600 miles or so with no drips on driveway. I had gone from 0w40 up to 5 and then10w 40 Mobil 1 with no reduction in consumption. I checked compression and it was even at about 130psi across all 6 cylinders. On the low side, but I hadn't floored pedal during cranking, so closed throttle maybe cut compression measure. Anyway, I figured consumption was just normal usage from wear on a 270k mile car, but decided to try a bottle of Restore, just cuz. Never used snake oil in the car before, but wow what a difference. Now it feels like a new car. While the car is Stage 1 chipped and always flew under boost, off-boost performance was modest. Only been in a day, so haven't monitored oil usage yet. I'll watch the dip stick and report back after a couple of weeks.

A good Audi parts guy and hard core enthusiast with an old 2.7 S4 once told me that these cars need frequent hard exercise. I have a hunch that I haven't driven the car hard enough over the years.

Anybody else tried Restore or Marvel to boost compression? Can I expect only short term improvement?

Snake oil update. So after a couple of weeks and 500+ miles, the oil consumption is not measurable on the dipstick. So it seems that the Restore did the trick and fixed my oil consumption issue. The immediate off-boost performance improvement that I noticed appears not to have been lost. But now I'm used to it, so hard to tell from butt dyno. The bottle label recommends adding a bottle at each oil change, but not sure if this is necessary or wise. I will give it a drive like stolen run once a week to see if that keeps the rings sealing properly.

Pretty cool. Wonder why they don’t put that additive in oil. Also wonder if there are any long term negatives.

I wonder about long term effects, too. I think this stuff adheres to the metal surface and seals that way. The initial performance improvement was likely due to better compression. The A student would run another compression test. I'll do that when the next ignition coil fails. Like three foot putts, God only lets you pull the plugs so many times in a lifetime.

This stuff is probably not needed if you get a new car every few years when the warranty runs out. I do have a hunch that I don't drive my car hard enough. There's lots of info recommending driving the car hard to keep the rings sealing properly.
I'll post info if any changes.

So I have a '02 A6 3.0 Avant with about 132k miles. I've owned it for almost 2 years, bought it with 119k miles. It used to leak oil through the valve cover gaskets horribly and have since replaced them. Yet I still go through about 1qt of oil every 1k-1200 miles. No oil drips that I can see. This "Restore" stuff safe to use in these engines? I've always been pretty picky about what lubes go in the motor since Audi has that VAG 502.00 specification. This is my first Audi btw.

A quart every 1200 miles is probably not that bad. The jury is still out for me. Since treatment, I've just had my 3rd tank of gas, but so far nothing negative. I checked oil yesterday and about a half pint has been used since oil change a week ago and about 300 miles driven. So that's about a qt every 1200 miles and half what I was using before. If I were you, I would run a compression test. I measured about 130psi before treatment without opening throttle(mistake). I think a fresh engine is around 170 psi with throttle open. Have a helper crank engine with throttle open and all plugs out. If you are low on a couple of cylinders, you might give it a try.

There's a few YouTube videos of tests that people have run with these additives.
