Loud whining/whistling noise from armrest???
Hi everyone. Over the last month a whining noise has been coming from the armrest area, possibly behind the arm rest in the lower area near the climate control functions. It only makes the noise while driving and has an oscillating characteristic. It doesn’t happen every time I drive but it’s extremely annoying. When I come to a stop, the noise slowly comes to a stop also. I have a video but not sure how to provide it within this post.

Ever serviced your driveline components...the differentials, transfer case, transmission in the past? Roll down your windows, turn the radio off, and listen to the car; it is a well insulated car. Maybe you'll get lucky though, and it just be the driveshaft carrier bearing. Another item that creates a varied whining noise with engine speed is the serpentine belt support rollers/tensioner going out, but that one can be replicated with car in Park and bring engine speed up. Again, you may not notice this so much with windows up on car, so roll down and test it both in a stationary position, and also while on the move. It's also possible you've got an issue inside the car related to the HVAC system, but with 170k miles on the clock, you need to roll down the windows and see what you can hear. If you don't DIY, get someone who does have some car knowledge to listen with you, or take it to an indie shop.
