Driver side window intermittent failure
I tried to search the forum but couldn't find anyone with this issue. Anyway i have a 2013 audi q7 and i have a problem with my controls on the driver side.
Especially when i try to open my windows, i can press it once, or twice or three times and it doesn't work sometimes it goes down half way or just a bit and then it's stuck there. I have to turn off the car and turn it back on and then it sometimes works. Sometimes i pull up the passenger window button and press down the driver window button and then it goes down. I had it at a repair shop, where i bought the car, and they said they changed the controls, this was almost 2 years ago, but i don't think they actually did that because the issue returned after a while and then it was out of warranty so go figure. It also sometimes doesn't work when i try to open the other windows.
Anyhow.. it doesn't seem to be a fuse problem since then they would never work. And i tried to reset the window by pressing down and then clicking down twice, also tried pressing down and holding for 15 seconds but the automatic down function doesn't work. Auto up seems to be working most of the times. Would a replacement of the controls fix it or is it some wiring issue? Any clues or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
That said, the master window switch controller is something I've replaced in most of my prior, long-term cars...sometimes twice in same car. I'm about to replace the mirror control switch on our '10, as you have to wiggle it this way & that to get it to work...a real PITA.
Switches don't last forever...take the hint.Last edited by '10Q7TDI_Prestige'; Apr 13, 2022 at 01:24 PM.
I'd also look at the wiring loom in the door jam, look for cracked, split or missing insulation.

The auto-function of the switch is it's second position, so if it doesn't work all the time you should take that into account when you buy the next replacement switch, and get the OE or OEM switch...just not from Audi dealer. You can try to blow it out with a can of compressed air, like is used on electronics/computers, etc., to remove fine particles. The switches I've taken apart in past to clean/repair the contacts on have never lasted very long post-repair before failing again, so I'd say try to blow it out and simply enjoy it while it lasts since it will still raise/lower the window for you.
I'm always looking for a great deal on parts for this car, but I don't buy the cheapest switches I can find; I buy the OEM or OE part for those and just search for a deal online. Generally speaking I buy the OEM part...same part Audi sells, just w/o the Audi or VW logo on it, and a lot less expensive.
For example Corteco, Continental, Pagid, Mahle, etc.; all are OEM parts suppliers to Audi. Continental makes a lot of the switches/electronics bits, but also the serpentine belt and lots of other stuff.
