fuel injector?

Default fuel injector?

Hello, My son has me back in the Audi game. He just purchased a 2008 a6 4.2l with 160k miles. It had timing issues. We found it was a solenoid and got that resolved and two weeks later we had a low fuel pressure code and misfires on that bank. We replaced the hp fuel pump and then had a no crank. He changed the starter before I could look at it and it still would not crank. I had a suspicion that they were related so I pulled the number 5 sparkplug and it was full of fuel. He pulled the rest of the sparkplugs and found fuel also in number 6 but not as much.

So my question is, is there anything other than a bad fuel injector that could fill the cylinder with fuel?

Simply to clarify - are you saying the no crank was due to hydro-lock from a cylinder being full of fuel?

The only way fuel can enter a direct injection cylinder is the fuel injector. Ingested liquid could enter a cylinder through the intake to cause hydro lock but there is no fuel in the intake on this engine.

Yes, it was hydro-locked.

Sounds like at least two injectors are stuck open meaning it is time for an injector service.

It was showing a p0087 and some misfire codes

If the injector(s) have been stuck open for awhile then the engine oil is likely contaminated and diluted with fuel. One sign of high VOC content is the oil cap rubber gasket may be swelled.
