I see coolant leaking somewhere under the front snub of the engine. sounds like water pump.
There is very good thread on this (https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a6-...ement-3054892/). Will follow their instructions. Just want to check on what parts should I replace while on it. I assume:
- pump
- tentioners
- belt
- coolant inlet flange
Anything else? Should I replace thermostat?
Should I use the original coolant or get the new G13?
This is all for Audi A6 Avant 2008 3.2L engine, 149K miles.
As I recall, the thermostat is quite a bit of extra work in a different direction eg under the intake manifold. So, unless it is the leak or not working, I would leave it. Just keep in mind that one hose nipple on the coolant cross over pipe breaks with a hard stare. If I am in the neighborhood, I always check for annoying leaks at the vacuum pump gaskets. For some reason I think we are G12++ types, but I am not 100%. What I do understand is if you change the system must be flushed.
The high point of the system is under the first cowl panel and there is a valve to relieve air from the system. This avoids the vacuum set-up the shops use.
thanks for alll the points.in regard to the coolant. We can use G12++. But I believe it is replaced with G13 which supposed to be more eco-friendly. I guess G12++ works better, but it would be hard to find it.
