Default A8 D2 TCU plug type/name?

I’m disassembling an 04 A8 D3. I want to use the harness for a 5HP19 transmission so I need a tcu plug that will connect to a box like the one shown in f and g. I’m planning to make my own custom harness starting with this one.

I will use an A8 D2 ecu, picture E, and 5 speed tcu, C or D. The tcu for the a3 6hp24 is inside the transmission.

I have found more than one control box on my donor with the same plug as the ecu, one for the ecu itself, A, by the windshield wipers and a second one under the dash, B. Furthermore these also plug, F, into the d2 ecu.
As i understand it these cars have something like 20 control boxes. Will I find abox on this chassis that has the same plug as the d2 tcu as in c, d and g? Is there a name or code for this type of connector?

The other ECU you found is for the air suspension system.

Although you will not be able to get the D2 engine ECU to work with the 6HP transmission from an D3 unless you’re able to access, reprogram and reconfigure all the ECU’s at the manufacturer level.

Automotive systems and tech has moved on massively from the 90’s lens I suspect you’re viewing this through. D3 is a spaceship compared to the D2. Completely different approach and technology used.

are you calling me a boomer? You're only off by a couple of years, haha.
Yesterday I picked up a harness, ECU and tcu from a 2001 A8. My plan is to try to run the d3 belt drive engine with the d2 electronics. I haven't tried plugging in the harness yet but when taking it off much of it looked familiar.

Hmmm. Good luck with that.

D2 or C5 are an under the carpet type TCU. Hooked to the total piece of crap Z5 5 speed. Having owned one, never again.

Meantime, problem with the pictures starts with on the D3 it should be oil soaked. As in, it literally swims inside the tranny pan. Thus good luck with any mod ideas. Honestly, about as (not...) likely to make a BMW TCU work. Those have "ZF" too and even similar tranny families sans Quattro that far back. Or a Jag XJ or ...

Net, gotta get right body one to start, which in turn are completely different trannies. The port 4.2 engine is a lot more similar from D2 to D3 (or C5) than anything around the tranny itself or its controls.

It's a bit difficult to take your well wishes seriously when proceeded by all those m's. I'm not too worried by your bad experience with the 5hp as I assume you're a bottom feeder like the rest of us on this board who form opinions when their 20 year old used car breaks, haha. Having said that if I hadn't come across this 996 5hp19 for $260 I wouldn't be doing this. Yes the 6hp tcu's are inside the transmission. No I'm not using one of those.

Yeah, I dunno 15,000 posts or so later. D3 board and W12 specifically now an old labor of love, and C5 board long clocked out. D4 is more current ride. FWIW, I owned the 5 speed lemon since new for 130K plus miles in a C5 4.2--literally off the showroom floor in late 1999. Like 99% of the D2's and D3's it reliably blew up right around 100K miles. Any decent search will tell you that. Audi's worst tranny lemon by a mile since its in-house attempt with the 3 speed Audi 5000 from the 80's. Also little known is that ZF did an internal rev later on in production deep into the internals given the issues they had--as I found out from the ZF authorized shop who replaced it.

What actually is your end goal with this endeavor, and why? What are you trying build/make work?

It must be bad luck or stupidity because I've owned a 84 5000 and a 99 A9.
