Default Timing chain tensioner pad fragments

While replacing valve cover seals (and now timing chain tensioners), I discovered broken bits of the timing chain tensioner pad/shoe under the camshafts. I've retrieved several pieces, but been unable to vacuum out at least one larger piece that disappeared into a hole/channel marked with a circle in the attached photos. Where does this channel lead to? If I were to bolt everything back up and start the engine, would the broken bits end up jamming the valves, end up in the oil pan or somewhere else? Any suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.
