Default 2017 Q5 2.0T brake light

My 2017 Q5 displayed the red BRAKE sign and beeps. Car has 20k miles , and looks like rear brakes are done . i have few questions:
-do rear brakes have sensors ?
- do I need to use vag to put the parking brake in service mode ?
- isn't too early for rear brakes ? ( front brakes are new - were replaced before purchasing the car at 16 k miles)

Yes, there are pad wear sensors on the rear. You can also use OBDeleven to disengage the parking brake... worked great for me. It is possible that one of the caliper pins locked up and did not let the pad properly retract. I think that happened in my case for the left rear brake. I had about 40k miles on my 2014 at the time and none of the other pads were even close to needing replacement. In my case, I am sure the salt and crud of Wisconsin winters caused the caliper to freeze up and not fully retract.

Thank you Stash64 for your quick response, how many sensors do I need ? The FCP euro rear brake kit does not include sensors (only screws and some other hardware)
also I have a Vag scanner (I own 2 Audi and 1 vw ) but not sure where to go to deactivate it) All YouTube videos are confusing

Well, I could be wrong about sensors on the rear. I definitely remembering dealing with them on the front but it is about 3 years ago when I did the brake job. Check ECS Tuning too to see what they have for brake kits.

Can't help with VCDS but others here might be able to offer some tips. It was super simple with OBDeleven as the parking brake release is one of the single click functions.

B9 (FY) has pad wear sensors on front left and rear right. B8 (8R) has it only on the front left. To do the rear brakes correctly, you will need a scan tool that can invoke the basic settings for retracting and restoring the parking brake piston. It seems unreasonable for the front or the rear to be anywhere near worn at only "20k" miles.

This is a good video to change the rear brakes using VCDS.

Same procedure for the Q5

Thank you all for the quick and super useful feedback . I am puzzle by the fact that the rear brakes do not have a sensor but trigger the Brake light and the 3 beeps when I start the car. What else may generate a brake light alert?
There are no VAG codes , the fluid tank is full, front brakes and rotors are new.

The fronts might have been recently replaced, but the sensor circuit is being tripped, meaning there's a break in the circuit path somewhere, whether or not it's the sensor loop itself. The J519 sensor pin is connected to ground through the wear sensor. When the wear sensor is worn away, the circuit is broken, and the J519 detects this. But the circuit path could be broken anywhere along the way. Maybe it's not plugged in well.
