Default Auto RX Treatment Process!

I just received two bottles of Auto Rx and was wondering what kind of dino oil and filter I should get for my 1997 Audi A4 1.8T. Do you guys have any preferences or recommendations?
Just in case, I got 5 quarts of Castrol 10W-30 and a Mobil 1 filter from autozone, are they ok to use?

Thanks !!!

Default That sounds ok, but a cheap filter is better for 2000 miles. You will need some more oil too....

It's a treat (clean) and then rinse process involving oil 2 changes. I see you have 2 bottles of ARX, that's great. Unless you think you are toally desperately sludged, I'd use just one bottle now (be shure to rinse it out good with oil). I'd use the one bottle with the Castrol GTX 10w-30, but if it gets cold where you live, you need a 5w-30 going into winter. Havoline is a good bet, I think maybe there are ester additives in GTX that might not be best with the rinse cycle. SO, I'd get some cheap filters too, no sense blowing a nice Bosch 3500 on a short interval. Fram makes some small filters that will work fine over 1500-2000 miles. I'd use the one bottle, rinse and then use the 2nd bottle as a "maintenance dose" with a compatible oil, Rotella Synth 5w-40 (summer) or Mobil 1 5w-30 (winter). You can get maybe 3 4oz maintenance doses from a 12oz ARX bottle.

PS if you think yaoe really are sludged or just bored, pour 1/2q of kero into your current oil, cold engine and idle/rev (do not drive) for 10 min before changing your current oil and it will soften the sludge for the new oil and ARX.

Since you need a visit to WalMart anyway, pick up some Berryman's carb cleaner and do an intake cleaning with your old oil in there to soak up the crap.

Default Ok, I live in CT so it would be better for me to go with Havoline 5W-30

However, I couldn't find Havoline at my local Autozone. Only Castrol and Shell were available when I was there two days ago.

Default My AutoZone has lots.Chevron Supreme maybe?I hate to say 10w-30 is not good now, but if gets<+20f

under +20f, you need a 5w in a turbo. If you think you will get through the clean phase, 2000 miles by mid december, ok just use the 10w-30. My guessing is that you will want drive through jan and feb without doing another oil change in the cold. That means you might need some Rotella T Synth to hang on for a 3000-4000 miles rinse phase, better filter too. If you don't mind changing oil in the cold, run any dino 5w-30 for 1500-2000 miles. That's all I can say now, if you can run the clean phase and get it over befofe temps in the teens (repetedly over ore than 2-3 days, you need to get some 5w oil and will definately need it for deep winter too. Brand is not important.
