My weekend of "TIRE HELL" results in new Pirellis
Tires damaged beyond repair- the Toyos were a great tire but I can't find any in short notice. Ended up with Pirelli P7000SS. I put the wheels on the car myself and took it for a ride. I had a really bad feeling about these tires. I expected some poor grip from the mold release but this was terrible.
Checked the tire pressures- the shop put just 28 psi in each tire and was noticeably low. duh. I got them to 40-42 and but the Pirellis didn't respond like the Toyos. I still say things will get better as the mold release wears off.
I did notice the sidewalls-- the Pirellis have a soft sidewall. Enough that 28PSI made it look flat! The Toyos had strong sidewalls... strong enough to act like a runflat tire. I didn't even know it was flat until I got to the driveway and driven about a mile. (I know where I ran over that board... left 2 holes.)
I hope these P7000s come into better feel. Maybe as the treadblocks wear, they'll get better.<p><a href="http://home.earthlink.net/~palmerj/"><img SRC="http://home.earthlink.net/~palmerj/sig.gif" BORDER=2></a>
