Default Max Wheel Sizes

I have a MY2K A4 1.8 with the sport package. What are the max sizes of wheels/tires I can place on my car w/o modifying anything else. (camber, etc.)

Default Too many variables here in your question.

There are people running 7.5" width rims all the way to 8.5".

Offsets go from stock 45mm to 32 for A! wheels

Rim dia go from 15 to 19 (not sure if anyone is running 20")

Tire size from 205 to 235s

Default My objective:

Here is my objective:
I want to put on some wheels and tires on my car. I want to know the largest I can go before I have to worry about scraping the fender and re-tuning the speedometer. I want something that looks nice and is wide and light. I need to know the specs I can work with .

Something in the matter of.. larger wheels, smaller tires.. no other config... slightly smaller wheels and bigger tires.. still no reconfig.

Default Some suggestions:

From what you have written - it seems like your objective is not performace but image. 17" wheels optiminal for performace. 18" wheels can be heavier than the 17" ones. You also can loose some drivability with 18" and up wheels because they will be letting you feel every crack in the road. That's fun for the first five or ten minutes of a drive.

1. To figure out the size wheel - just go to the tire mfr sites or Tire Rack - they have the formulas that will let you know what are the plus one plus two etc sizes that will not require recalibration of the speedo.

2. As I said the bigger the dia of the wheel the more shock you will feel in the car. Also the more vulnerable the wheel will be to damage from pot holes. Also - it mean more weight - unless you want to spend a zillion dollars on BBS or other wheels.

3. Spend some time reviewing the past postings to learn from what others have said and see what they are running. (I spent over 9 months looking a wheels and reviewing what others had to say about the different wheels I was looking at. Maybe you have lots of money and $2400 for a set of wheels and tires is nothing but for me it was a fun time of learning about offset, weight, looks, rim widths, and tire performance issues.)

4. I also found with my 17" rims that the rear brakes looked punny. I had to install cross drilled and slotted brakes and paint the calipers to make the car look better and not like it had Honda Civic brakes.

5. You will also need some different brake pads to prevent having to clean your wheels every day. Got to be problem cleaning them BBS wheels.

Good luck.

Default Thanks for the post, I will consider this! (more)

Just the type of information I was looking for. I was considering differnet size wheels and I also have consdiered drivability. Adjusting the speedo was not such a big issue of mine, just the camber and other stuff. A great point that you brought up that I payed a lot of attention to was the rotors an braks calipers. I was thinking about that, but not as soon as I should have.
Would you know if my turn raduis would be compensated with 17/18x 8.5?

How did you go about getting your calipers painted? Manually?
