Tire comparison, any advise/experiences with...
These would be 225/45/17x7.5 on a quattro.
How is the treadwear, wet/dry (mainly dry)traction, worth the price?, etc.
They'll be driven modestly for the most part with some spirited backroad adventures every now and then.
Any and all advice would be great...
Thanks in advance.
The 5000's are still really good summer tires, In fact they are still rated "ultra high performance". They use a different rubber compound so the tread will last much longer. I don't know the treadwear ratings off hand but I do rememver the 5000 has a significantly higher rating than the 8000. Also, the 5000's are rated for "all season" and I can speak from personal experience.... they are really good in the snow and I don't even have a quattro!
Since you are using 17's, by default you should have a shorter, and therefore stiffer sidewall... which will translate to better cornering.
Although I'm not a track monkey, I do like to put my A4 through some spirited driving in the corners.. and I can't say I notice any difference in handling between the 8000's which I just retired (rest their souls), and the new 5000's which I just put on a few weeks ago.
If you do a search back a few weeks... Larry V did a very informative review of his 5000's which he put on his S4.
