How easily do rims bend? Why are so many people bending their rims?

when you increase rim diameter (plus size) you decrease rubber cushion....
because the inner diameter of the tire becomes larger, there is less rubber and air protecting the wheel from a major impact in a pot hole. This becomes a real issue when guys step up to 18 or 19" rims. The look is great, but the rim is more vulnerable.
It is also possible to bend a 16" rim too.. I nailed a really bad pothole years ago in my grand prix.. and I bent the rim... and those cars had really fat tires on them too.
