Your use of the word "sanely" implies you think that performance tires merely cease to be performance tires on snow and drop down to regular handling levels. This is far from true. You will have a rough time of it.
Of course, if you have no other choice, what can you do?
I think it's the compound; the SP8000s give the impression, when it's really cold out, that they're made out of bowling *****. They seem great otherwise, but no fun on snow and hockey pucks on ice.
