i just got a set of bbs lm's and i need some advice
i jsut got a set of bbs lm' s. they are 17x8.5 in the front and 17x9.5 in the rear. I was going to run a 225 45 17 in the rear and 215 45 17 in the front. I have been told that the tires would have to be stretched but it should work. I am installing H&R coilovers this week and my car is a 99 quattro. Will this work without too many problems?? Any suggestions??

The 215/45 17' will be too small for the 8.5 width - handling will suffer. I'm told that correct size for 17 x 8 wheels is 235/45 17. Likewise 225s might be too small for rears...

mixing rim and tire sizes on a quattro is not the greatest idea...
moreover, there is no performance benefit to putting bigger/wider wheels in the back as it is not a RWD car.
Also, the tire sizes you're suggesting are too narrow, given the width of the rims you provided.
I wouldn't put anything narrower than 225/45 on a 8.5" wide rim, and even that is stretching it. I have 225/45 on 8" rims, and they are just flush with the rim edges. Even if it is possible to put on a 215/45 tire on an 8.5" rim, you'll scrape and bend the heck out of the rim lip.
Same goes for 225/45 and 9.5" rims in the rear. I think the max recommended rim width is 8.5". I don't even think that a 17x9.5 rim will fit without rubbing if you'll have an aftermarket sports suspension installed.
All this is assuming you have an A4, which you have not told us ;-)
