Paging Gary @ Tirerack...
Hello Gary, I have a 2001 Audi A6 4.2L V8 Quattro. I still have the stock 16" rims which I believe are 7 or 8" wide and currently have 225/55-16 snow tires on them. I bought 18 x 8.5" rims for summer use and I hate to take them off because my winter rims are so ugly. What is the narrowest tire I can run on an 8.5" wide rim? How much more effective are my 16's really going to be?

You can mount 235/40R18 tires on the 18X8.5" wheels and they'll still have the correct diameter and load capacity for your car. That isn't much wider than your 225/55R16 tires.<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AH8&url=/winter/index.jsp">winter</a></li></ul>
