Another SNOW WHEEL question.. please help!
I'm reposting the following paragraph from the B7 board. I may road trip to these wheels today and actually try them on(2.5 hours). This is a lease car and we simply don't have the $ to go out and buy alloys.
I've searched the archives crazy but these wheels came up today and I'm just not sure...
Will 1999 A6 16" steelies fit our '07 2.0 Avant?
Our car came with 17's but I see that 16's are standard.... Pretty sure the '99 is 212mm BC and so is ours, right? How would I know if our calipers are too big? Thanks, C.

My two cents....
I ran steel wheels on my A4 for it's first two winters. I hated it! I wasn't concerned about the looks, even though it looked like crap. The problem with the steel wheels was the snow caked inside the barrel (like it would on any wheel). This causes imbalance and horrible vibration. The problem with the steel wheels is they're about impossible to clear the snow out of without going to a self service car wash and spraying the wand through the little holes.
I recommend a 5 or 6 spoke wheel (so you can fit your hand w/ glove easily in to clear out snow). I stick with simple and smooth designs so it's easy to push the snow out.
Tirerack has many near $100 options for alloys that would work great for winter, and alloys are easy to sell once you turn the lease in.
Bonus is the car will look nicer in the winter, but this is just a small benefit as performance/utility is more important. </man>
Next is selecting the right tire, which is more important yet.

You're right ...
but it hasn't been much of a problem for me. I've been running steel wheels for about 20 years now. For the last 15, I've had a good garage and I spray off the cars almost every night.. Our wheels never get to the heavily caked state. I do get sand that is stubborn sometimes.. Thanks, C.
