Wett K04 - Flawed or Fabulous?
Steve Moyle doesn't have any trouble, Wett turned his car into "a monster" successfully... at least not in his registry entries. But a certain other WettK04 owner seems to have every problem imaginable (those of us following his story know who...)<p>Is this an install issue (different methods have different results, some are using the right install method, others a wrong method)?<p>Is this a quality control issue (turbo kits aren't uniform from Wett)?<p>Is this a customer service issue (does Wett know about the problem and doesn't have enough contact personnel to handle fixes)?<p>Is this a use issue (have the people suffering from turbo K04 problems somehow misused the unit, or used it in a way Wett's kit engineers didn't predict)?<p>Still K04 Shopping,<br>Cameron

Terence let me drive his Neuspeed K04 - pretty nice
On Thursday at our NorCal lunch Terence dropped by with his newly installed K04 that he got from Neuspeed. He let me take it for a short spin....I only got a little bit of time behind the wheel...but it seemed to go pretty good. Since I do not have a 1.8T, and since the drive was so short, I cannot relate the differences between this and other chipped 1.8T. Corey S also drove it...and he has a Wett 1.0 bar on his standard K03 turbo. He might be better equipped to explain the differences. <p>Steve S.<br>97 2.8QM

Neuspeed K04 might be what your looking for
-There have been 3 Wett K04 installs and they have all had problems, archives on Oct.20 will show that in addition to DonP, Lucas and Mr. A4 have had problems too. All have experienced very little power gain and pinging, among other symptoms. All have had unresolved problems for over a 1-2 month period before getting anywhere and none of them ever achieved the 235hp performance numbers that Wett. claims. <p>- I don't know if Wetterauer has QC, staffing or engineering issues, but since they only have a couple employees, you can bet that they may fall short in all these areas.<p>- The issue of whether to consider this upgrade at $2495 or at any price is moot. This particular upgrade by Wett. does not work. <p>- Lastly, I could'nt make a case for seriously considering the Wett. upgrade even if it were a viable quality product, considering they are priced over a $1,000 more than Neuspeed, I have never heard of them until this year and still don't know very much about them, at least not enough for me to take them seriously. <p>

I think it all comes down to the chip, and different ecu's in all our cars. Mine is a 97, and the chip was done by Frank while he was with the car on the dyno with all testing equip hooked to the car. As a result, im going to have less problems than others, kind of a custom chip since I had other mods. I also think that since they are charging a grand more than Nspeed, they should be shipping the cooler Bosch plugs with their kit (hello Wett) since everyone seems to wind up getting them anyway. Maybe there is something to the 180 thermo and switch Nspeed ships. I now I used to have that in my old GTI, and with the turbo lower temps means less closer to det. This isnt to say Ive never had problems, one chip Ricardo made for me (and put in the car, left for Mt. Washington weekend) didnt even run. Right now im having a problem with my Profec, or the bov (but not K04 related). This is just part of what makes a hobby fun, tinkering. How boring if we just plugged something in, it worked fine and we left it. Thats why you guys just cant stop at the chip alone, its too easy. Happy holidays. SM<br>
