TAP states on the web site FAQ that 50% of their chipped 1.8's and done for dealers??

If that is true, who is buying these dealer chipped 1.8's. I don't recall seeing a post of anyone buying a new A4 already chipped. Are they doing it for dealers outside the US? Or is this claim not really true.'99 1.8QMS thinking about chipping

I think this might be the case outside the US.

However, I'm not sure. I also have a 99' 1.8Tqms and definitely plan on chipping it. I think I'll wait til' spring, seeing that I live in CT and plan to take it to VT to go skiing at least a few times. How many miles are on your 99'? I now have about 2K miles. I don't think it would be wise to chip it before 2K miles. What chip do you think you'll end up with? I'm thinkin' Hoppen, but am not sure. Thanks.JT 99' 1.8Tqms

Reeves Audi in Tampa DOES install TAP chips for customers....

For only $800...nearly twice the price that TAP charges. I guess the only people who get it done don't know about TAP and get ripped off. They are a good dealer though, and are big into modifying Audis I hear.Christian

Re: Yes you can buy chipped and tuned cars at dealers outside US.

While I was in Germany I stopped by a couple of Audi dealers. You could buy some of the sweetest looking tweeked cars straight off the show floor.I saw an A3 that had suspension mods, chipped motor, 17 inch wheels, aerodynamics package, and a revised interior with white guage cluster. This was one of the best looking cars I have ever seen. It really depressed me that you can't just buy an Audi like that here.If Audi would sell something like that in the US it would blow all others into the weeds. Germans keep the best toys for themselves. Too bad for us.

N Z Dealers sell Tuned A4's

In New Zealand you can buy your A4 from the Dealer standard, or with a choice of 187, 210 or 286 hp MTM kits....doesn't affect your warranty either!

Which chip for '99QMS

My car has 1,100 miles. Probably won't chip for a while. Maybe after first service. Looking at Wett vs. Hoppen and also at Neuspeed if I decide to save some $$. Down time is not a concern because I have another car to drive. After sifting through archives, the increased boost from the more agressive chips does not seem to be much of a reliability issue, but it just seems more sensible to go for the less costly, less agressive Neuspeed. But on the other hand, if you are going to do it, why not go for the max. Decisions, decisions...

It's a blackmail of sorts that I just faced as I'm buying my A4.. if you have the dealer install the chip (at a price of course,) the take is that if there are any warranty issues, the dealer looks the other way. You install your own chip, maybe that doesn't happen.
