Oxygen sensor turns on check engine light after supersprint...
I have a '98 A4 quattro. Recently ordered a supersprint exhaust and downpipe. But was told that if I remove the catalyst and install the downpipe the second O2 sensor would trigger the check engine light. I'm planning on installing an APR ECU in the near future, but would like to know if the stock ECU is programmed to give any performance loss once the check engine light comes on, or does the light turn on and nothing else is affected. Since I bought the exhaust first I will have to run the car with the stock ecu for a couple of months.

You should not remove the cat unless this is a track only car...
taking the cat out and running open is plain irresponsible...you know we have to breathe that air, YOU have to breathe that air...
BTW - It's VERY VERY illegal to remove your cat and drive around like that unless you're on a track only.
