Quattro + ESP question
I entered the ramp at 45 and accelerated to about 60-65 when I hit the main road. While on the ramp, the tires were screeching loudly and I could feel significant understeer. It was a really tight ramp and there was lots of force pulling the car sideways. I was surprised at how much noise the tires were making.
Anyway, I was thinking that ESP would have worked a little harder to handle the understeer. Any thoughts?
1) ESP won't do anything unless there's a more, umm, acute problem. Unless you actually lose the front end, ESP won't correct. It really functions to get you back on track once you lose one end of the car or the other, when the car's instantaneous yaw rate doesn't match up with what would be expected by the system given the current speed and steering angle input.
2) If you were severly understeering and this wasn't a major uphill ramp (which would cause a lot of rearward weight transfer), I'd check to make sure tire pressure is really where you want it to be at all four corners.

My pressures are currently set at 36 front and rear. I think handling was better with them set at 32 front and rear.
