Default Removal of Steering Column Trim

How do you get the small screws on the front of the lower trim piece (which are behind the steering wheel), out? I don't really want to take the wheel off.

Default I'm confused....

...Are you talking about the two Torx screws on the backside of the steering wheel? Or are you talking about the screws that are hidden behind the plastic trim on top of the steering-column right in front of the instrument gauges?

Default You have to remove the wheel.

I actually got the screws out (tiny long philips screwdriver), but the trim still cannot be removed until the steering wheel is removed. The wells where the screws are located go deep into the column. This piece must be pulled back, not down.

Default Not exactly true...

I took this trim piece off to hook up my turbo timer, and it basically takes a long, thin screwdriver, or a really short one, or finally one of those that sits at a right angle. Be careful, though, 'cause you may very well end up stripping it. I got them out fine, but then kinda stripped the left-hand one putting it back in. Never was able to tighten it like I wanted to, but I haven't had any squeaks or rattles. There was no need to remove the wheel.

Good luck

The bottom trim of the steering column has 1 torx screw that is visible on the bottom of the trim piece. There are also two recessed holes that hold small phillips screws that hold the top trim piece to the bottom trim piece. on the "front" of the bottom trim piece (visible behind the steering wheel) are two more recessed holes holding another two small phillips screws that hold the bottom trim piece to something on the steering column. Those are the screws that I want to remove.
