cluster replacement

does anyone know if you can code an s4 cluster to work in a 1.8 a4? 2000 model, has anyone seen this done?

well....

I've got an RS4 cluster in my S4 and it just took some simple tweaks in VagCom. All that needs to be done is setting the mileage and changing the soft coding so the cluster understands that you have a 4 cylinder engine.
If you have a VagCom, I can give you directions, if not, you can come over to my house and I'll do it for you (if you are in Atlanta).

yes but both are 6 cyl...I'm told by people in the know that it is unlikely that it will accept the coding for a four cyl. but they could not say for sure...I could try it before putting the mileage but the clusters know come shrink wrapped and the dealer will not accept it back once that is broken

how about this:

We can try it on my old S4 cluster. If it accepts the coding (and I'd be willing to bet money that it would), then you can open the shrink wrap and install your actual cluster, if not, you can return it.

The cluster is in my garage in Kennesaw and has 73,537 miles on it.

I'd sell it if you really want it, but the center display doesnt look that great.

Either way, you are more than welcome to try it for our little experiment.
