if you have to get the C part (8D1 820 103 C), then I think you're screwed. you'll be spending more than $500
if the dealer says you can use the D part (8D1 820 103 D), then you can probably get a new one for in the $3XX range.
those used parts are looking pretty attractive right now i'm sure. either way, you're probably looking at a couple days of labor to get the interior dash torn apart to get to the evaporator core
