try vwparts.com
talk to the dealer and ask them which part number you need, then check out the vwparts.com website. you can search by part number
if you have to get the C part (8D1 820 103 C), then I think you're screwed. you'll be spending more than $500
if the dealer says you can use the D part (8D1 820 103 D), then you can probably get a new one for in the $3XX range.
those used parts are looking pretty attractive right now i'm sure. either way, you're probably looking at a couple days of labor to get the interior dash torn apart to get to the evaporator core
