Default 4WD problems

I have a rumour that the 4WD is not as good a drive as the 2WD? Anyone able to comment on this?? I heard that the 4WD is based on the A3 or A4 4WD version, which I understand did not get hot reviews.

There has been a review in one of the leading car magazines in Germany (Auto Motor & Sport). As far as I remember they considered the TT's 4WD as a very good one. There was also another test of the 4WD-version in a newspaper which was very positive.

I’ve driven all three of them both on track and on the road. All are good drives but of course there are differences between the systems!
The TT Quattro system isn’t based on anything, It's a new engineering layout for Audi, first introduced on the TT;s. (the A3 Quattro is based on the TT and the A4 is totally different!!)
There is a lot to read in the forums on this, just go to the archives and look for my signature!
GreeTTings Lou
>The TT Quattro system isn't based on anything... That's wrong!
The 4WD of the TT is practically identical to the 4WD of the good old-new Golf 4Motion, down to the Haldex diff. This car has been around in Europe for some month's now.
the system get's pretty good marks, especially on snow covered roads. There was a comparison test in a german publication, where the Golf got slightly better marks than the Audi, probably because of the better weight distribution of the first.
Happy WaiTTing for the 4wd's

PaTTRick
The ongoing concerns about the Haldex-based Quattro system appear to be without merit. I have an investment in a company the produces a competing product to Haldex, and according to my sources within that company, the Haldex-based Quattro is meeting all of VAGs expectations. The only issue is that the Haldex device is expensive; it costs VAG approximately $450-$475 per vehicle. The company that I have invested in prices their product at $150. VAG is very interested in this device; the cost savings are definitely real. Low production volume of the Quattro system could be indicative of a possible system re-engineering.
The delivery schedules that everyone is talking about have not changed since my first round of dicussions with Audi. Late Spring '99 (late April to early May) for the FWD 180bhp TT, followed by the 180bhp Quattro version in mid- to late-Summer '99. The 225bhp TT is scheduled to arrive in late-Autumn early Winter '99. The 225bhp has a delayed introduction, in the USA, to certify the car as ULEV. This certification is essential, read major market, for California. Of course, emissions control is why the nozzles shutdown during braking.--See thread on "No Heel-and-Toe"

Default Actually you are.....

…right and wrong. The Haldex system WAS actually developed as a NEW high performance system for transversally mounted engines and the first intended use was for the TT.
The Golf 4motion did hit the market much earlier, which makes both of us correct :-)
But don’t miss my point: The Q system for the TT was developed for the TT, and its not based on any other car.
GreeTTings Lou
