Alignment Question
Ok, so I dropped the rims/tires off at the shop today.. They're going to unmount em and i'll bring car back mid week and leave it so they can put the tires on my rims
I need an alignment... This shop charges $129 minimum he said, he said i'm looking $250 total for alignment and dismount 8 tires, mount 4 ($100 to dismount 8 mount 4 is a pretty good price IMO)
They are a GOOD shop. Owner tracks his cars, always nice cars in there. Wheel/Brakes/Suspension shop
I guess the $129 for an alignment seems steep (however I know they'll do a great job)
I've heard about the firestone $149 lifetime alignment... which seems like a great deal (if i get a smart person working on the car)
What do you guys think?

Depends on what you need aligned...>>
If all you needed was a front toe/Camber tweek, an idiot could do that. If you want it done right, including centering the Subframe if necessary, addressing the rear toe (Few outside the Audi world know how to do this) or have camber correction parts on the rear (If you don't you should), then go with the guy who knows what he's doing. A lifetime of bad alignments seems just wrong..

My right rear wears HORRIBLY on the inside>
Car doens't pull that hard, but I have no idea what a readout would say...
There is a shop I found on the FL fourm that many reccomend - things like 'only place to get my Audi right'
The shop I took my car to works on many more BMW and Mercedes than Audis... From what i've heard (and talking to the owner) I'm just assuming they'll get it right...

will do. i'll call the other place I know (from AW'rs) gets it right to see what they charge
if its less i'll take it there since i KNOW they can get it right
but droppin the car off at one shop and picking it up right is ideal!

and when I say BAD i mean bad>
right rear inner has some metal showing (reason I'm replacing tires), rest of the tire ~25-30% tread left
right front - even wear ~ 30% tread
left 2 tires ~ 40% tread left, even wear

never had a good feeling about a lifetime warranty on an alignment>>>
cannot see how that is good for ones business to be honest. You are one curb or pothole away from screwing up an alignment, so to guarantee something like that seems wrong to me.
129$ is not a bad if it is done correctly. Give them the specs you want, and the outputs from the alignment machine so you can compare....If he does not know how to get the specs right, be wary...
