Default the rubber boot is classic & unique to the TT; anyone can put on a leather one >

I tried a MOMO boot once and hated it; Steve had one and liked it. It was a pain to get on properly and I never liked the edge trim I had to do on it - was kind of a crude detail, not 'closed' by the flange on the trim ring, but just clamped down and cut, if that makes any sense - also tended to put too much stress on the ring screw inserts, causing them to want to pull out - oh well.

Default I've got a Redline with the stock **** and love it...

The oem tore and rather than pay the "classic & unique" price I chose Redline because they look great and are affordable. Once the oem **** shows signs of wear I'll start looking for its replacement.

Default Ok, truth be known I sent off my stock boot to a guy that is

trying to fab one out of leather. I love the stock boot but at the time I only looked at the stealership for a replacement and, yeah, they wanted to do very bad things to me...

Default I'm thinking I'll try a bike tube repair kit on the underside of it >

just need to find a thin enough patch that won't distort it too much.

Hey Death, in the near future I may have an option for you regarding the leather boot. FYI.

Default I don't dislike the rubber from a design standpoint-it is classic TT. But...

Mine is 7 1/2 years old now and the time is taking a toll on it. It's drying out and not pliable. I just want to try leather for a while.

The Redline looks like a cleaner fit than the Momo and I'm thinking I could send in the lower half of the ****, the base, to them to custom fit the boot to it. I'm going to contact them and see.

Default it could be properly done; for some reason I just didn't want to spend the time. >

To install it properly imo, you would want to cement the base of the boot to the seat of the ring mount and trim it in place after the holes have been *punched*; This will allow you to 'undercut' the boot, and not have to trim it to the outside of the ring when the ring is reinstalled. Any excess material will bunch and cause the trim ring to not seat evenly, so watch that aspect carefully during fabrication - especially difficult to overcome this at the seam where the leather joins itself of course, but you'll just have to work with that.
