backfire?

has anyone had a tt backfire? i have heard a backfire sound twice now... i cannot be sure that it was my car as the first time it was on the 4th of july and i blamed it on pre-celebration fireworks... but it happened again today. i didn't feel it in the car, just heard it. am i nuts or what?

If your car is stock, it shouldn't.

You know...

...that happened to me a week or so ago. I thought the first one was post-fourth of july fireworks, the next one was in a neighborhood and I was just starting from a stop light.

Hasn't happened since though, so I forgot about it until you mentioned it. It was about three weeks ago.

backfire in the exhaust or intake?did the engine skip when this happened?were you on the gas or did you lift?what was the weather like?--dpd

i didn't feel it *in* the car... just heard the noise

also, i think i was just chugging along on the freeway, and it was 72 degrees out. the engine didn't skip. that's why i wasn't sure it was me...

if it backfires, it shouldn't do it infrequently should it? i mean once it starts backfiring, it'll do it frequently, right?

gosh. i talked to my dad (used to be a mechanic... well, informal auto mechanic, but prof airplane mechanic).. he seemed to think if it backfired, it would be doing it all the time... maybe he's wrong though.
