Default Brief e-mail from...

Mike Duff, former road test editor for the UK's Car Magazine. I met Mike during his visit to the U.S. for the test of the then unreleased Nissan 350Z. Here's what Mike said about the 3.2 TT.

I have driven the DSG (It's already been launched in the UK, which is now - officially - the TT's biggest market). It's absolutely brilliant - plenty of performance, uncannily good gearchange. Suddenly all the Ferrari / BMW pretend F1 systems look slightly amateurish...

The only real downside is that, despite Audi's claims, I reckon the gearbox weighs about double what a 'standard' one does, meaning a slightly firmer-feeling front end.

I don't think this guy is a rocket scientist.. .maybe it's the 6 cyl making the car feel heavy.

Default Yes, he is a rocket scientist...

Duff was Car's road test Editor. He is highly experienced and very well respected. Bear in mind that this is a very casual e-mail between he and I.

I am not sure about the differences in weight of the DSG tranny versus a standard manual. Are you?

Default I would say it's an 80/20 rule situation...

80 of the bad handling comes from 20% more engine.

Default Actually...

Just about everyone who's driven the car says it handles better. There may be a slight shift in weight distribution, but nothing major I'm sure.

Default Just a guess based on the number of shafts and gears but it would seen to me to be about 1/3 again

..as much weight as the 6sp manual box.
