Broken Engine Mounting Brackets

My mechanic quoted me $850 to install two engine mounting brackets and a mount on my 2002 Audi TT. The parts cost about $450. Is this fair? What do you guys think? (I'm in South Florida)

Are you a drag racer? How 'n the heck did you break engine mounts??

The only thing that usually goes on these cars is the lower Dogbone mount and you can fix that with a $16 part...I'd look for a second opinion if I were you. That quote sounds like your tech needs to make a boat payment or 2. What are the symptoms?

No. I just went over railroad tracks without slowing down. @55mph. Heard a loud thump. Then a scraping noise when moving and the car would run rough.

They are easy to break in the FWD cars >>

I trashed countless transmission side mounts with my mk4 2.0T. They are identical to the 1.8t. The way they let the motor swing kills them. Once the metal pendulum contacts the casing during a wheel hop the casing breaks at the top and is ruined. With the rear axle in place on the quattro cars the motor swings less and they are less prone to damage.

The mounts used to cost me like $100 a side and I replaced them in about 45 mins a side. Most of the work is removing all the crap above them. You need a jack to keep the motor up. Not a bad job if you can tackle nuts and bolts.

I broke one so bad once I bent the top of my frame, but that's another story...
