Default BUSTED!

Well, it seems that the loose lips have sunk the ship...AoA has sent out a memo to dealer's service departments that they are now directed to box up and return the removed suspension parts, after performing the upgrade, or they will not be reimbursed. No more "destroy and dispose". We're being watched.

My real worry is the concept that now if I wreck my TT, I will not get the original suspension parts, but the "upgrades", against my will. This is what they are going to do. So much for voluntary. Drive carefully!

Default They May Be...

...trying to protect their ***. If you think about it, as much as you and others report enjoying your mark 1 suspension, others may be waiting for it to crash so they can sue the pants off Audi

..at least in the US. We've already have people on this board talking about suing over a stupid emergency brake cap if I remember right. Can you imagine the exposure for Audi should someone wreck and blame it on the suspension?

Not that it's right, it's just what happens.
Tom Boucher

well maybe they need to think about the class action stemming a forced voluntary recall

Default What would our damages be? How would we quantify the difference between suspensions?

Can you imagine the battle of the experts? "Your Honor, we demand the suspension that Audi has chosen to replace because of its potential unstability." It would be a mess, and I don't think we would get very far. If people stopped buying the TT with the new suspension, that would catch Audi's attention. They would bring back some close variant of the MKI in a heartbeat. Fact is, we love this car, regardless of which suspension. And we will just keep buying them.

Default it would be interesting

weirder things have happened - they got O.J. off. No company wants to see an organized group of unhappy customers.

Audi has stated that the problems addressed by the voluntary recall occur in excess of legal U.S. speed limits. Either it is mandatory or voluntary - not kind of sort of de facto if you need a repair job.

I will step off my soap box

Default That's why I'm hoping my damage does not mean changing suspension parts. I love my Mk 1 set up.

Default Dan--I second that--and that is what they will get if they try to replace my MK1 with an MK2

Default I, too, wonder if we might not have some legal recourse...

this is the car I bought, Your Honor, and I fail to understand why Audi cannot restore this vehicle to it's original specifications...
