Default Check Engine Light

Captioned light came on at about 20,000 (not blinking). Dealer said okay to drive while waiting 3 weeks for my service appointment. I pick it up after hours, drive off the lot and it comes back on. Service rep says, "we downloaded the codes and reset the light, it didn't come back on so we deleted them!" DUH! Now I have to wait 3 weeks for another appointment. ANY ADVICE??

Default Re: Check Engine Light

A similar thing happened to me. First time it was the diverter valve, which was replaced. On the way home, the light came back on and this time it was the mass airflow sensor. Maybe they were related, or maybe it was just a coincidence. Nobody can say for sure.

One thing though, I also had to wait 3 weeks for the first appointment. I told the service rep that I was not willing to wait another 3 weeks to have this checked. (like I had a choice, the other local dealer had a 4 week backlog) They were able to squeeze me in the next day. It never hurts to remind people who the customer is.

Default Misery loves company I guess........

I just took my TT in today for the second time over a recurring "check engine light". Other symtoms are "coughing and sputtering" over 5k rpm and a rather "sooty" tail pipe. The first time they replaced the DV valve and reset the codes and, just like you, in about 8 hours the light came back on and the engine started running rough at high rpm. Today, I told them to check the MAF. I will let you know what they (service)comes up with.

BTW, I didn't have to wait for 3 weeks for an appointment, my dealer got me in the next day.

Default Yes you should get RIGHT back in and not wait, find out what the DT Codes are and post them, has

...your car lost power? If so I would look at the MAF sensor if I were the dealer. But again there is NO way you should have to wait again as they did not fix the problem. You can have a bad MAFS and the codes will not come back right away but in a day or two they will.

Default DV & MAFS are not related it was the MAFS all along, they just didn't fix it first time around.

..the DTCs will stay cleared for a day or two before they coe back on when the MAFS is bad.

Default Fill a bag with dog $hit, light it on fire, put it on the service department's front door...

...and ring the doorbell.

Sounds like you've got enough GOOD advice below.
