Default Chipping & Exhaust

I have two questions...please keep in mind I am not a mechanical saavy individual...

1. I am considering buying a chip for my 2000 180TTQ coupe... I will most likely buy an entirely new ECU with the new chip so I can swap in the original if needed when I bring to dealer..My question is how hard is it to take out the ecu and put in new one? Is it a difficult prpcess? is is easy to get to?

2. Can I chip the car and not replace the exhaust? Will this cause the engine to run too hot? Is a new cat-back exhaust a must have for chipping my TT??

Any and all help much appreciated<p><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/WaTTson.jpg" BORDER=0></a>

Default Installing new ECU is 10 minute job (more)

I highly recommend APR. I replaced my chip first and drove for a week before my Borla exhaust arrived. The car ran great and did not overheat. The new exhaust just seemed to make the engine even smoother up through the gears.<p><a href="mailto:emorawski@email.com"><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/EdTT1.jpg" border="0" alt="180Q APR Chip"></a>

Default Replacing the exhaust is not essential, esp with a stage 1 chip. I'd recommend the exhaust, anyway.

Default I would recommend both a chip and exhaust . . .

You can go with any of the big 3 chip makers; APR, Garrett or MTM. They each have their own philosphy when it comes to chip tuning and each thinks they have the best chip on the market.

I recommend also getting an exhaust. You can get anyone you like, from a single pipe(Borla) to a dual pipe(Scorpion, Remus) to a quad pipe(LLTek). It is a personal choice at that point. I think each exhaust claims 5-15hp gains.

I went with a Garrett Stage II and Borla single tip exhaust. I think the Borla is one of the more quiet exhausts, especially at idle. It takes having the engine under a load to hear a difference over stock. The LLTek sounds really nice, the Remus I have not heard, just seen. it looks like a 225 dual tip. I think it might just be a muffler and not an entire exhaust.

The ECU is very simple to swap out. Once you have done it once, it gets faster with each swap.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>

Default Remus vs. Borla?

I've too have been mulling over an exhaust upgrade, but I'd like more info about the Remus single pipe. I've seen a pic of it here and like the styling of the tip, but obviously want the best product. Is there a US distributor for the Remus? How much do they run? Is there a preference from anyone who's had both a Remus and a Borla?

Any comments or info would be appreciated.<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=4626"><img src="http://homepage.mac.com/galaxian/.Pictures/mmttsig.jpg" alt="Click here for my registry entry." border=0></a>

Default What do you mean 1.1 or 1.3? APR clearly stated to me that they NEVER update software!

Are you telling me that Stephen from APR lied to me? He said that if Garrett couldn't get the software right the first time he would not have to release a Stage II for his chips!

Now you are stating that APR has BOTH a 1.1 and a 1.3 version of a TT chip? This does not make sense!

Stephen if you or Brett are reading this, please comment. I know for a fact you guys lurk in here . . .what is the truth?<p><a href="http://registry.audiworld.com/audi/registry/details.asp?car=3285"><img SRC="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/ttsig.jpg" BORDER=0 alt="Click for Mods"></a>
