Default Chipping question

I had my ECU reprogrammed when the car had only 600 miles, so I realy did not know the cars true capabilities. I asked where the old chip was, they said they did not replace the chip, but re-programmed it....is that true? Now this immobilizer chat has me concerned, does my car have a immobilizer, and was my car chipped? Its fast and all, but I expected more.

Default Lets start with a few questions...build date on car? 180 or 225? But...

yes you can 'flash' the chip without replacing...basically dumping EPROMs and other engine management profiles on chip and then 'recording' new version. Also who did your chip?

Default There is a product called the shark injector...

I haven't checked it out, but apparently it fashes OBD-II chips to "modded" and back to original. It is advertised as for BMW's 96-2000. It is a hand held unit. If they make a TT module, I will give them a go because it would be so easy to upgrade and downgrade using the diagnostic port. With a VAG-COM, this would be completely stealth. www.sharkinjector.com In this day and age, physical changing of chips should be retired. I know this dude Guenther from TTP in Germany that flashes programs for Boxster's and 911's regularly.

Default I have read about a similar product, not sure if it is the same...

but, I think that VW/Audi at one time had eproms that could be flashed via the VAG but I remember hearing that it changed to not being able to do it.

I think they were using it so that they could update the ECU with the latest versions without taking out the ECU, but then it became unreliable.
