Default Coilover installation problems HELP

Me and my bro are trying to install a set of KW Variants in the front (rear got done quick).

We're running into a weird *** problem though...trying to get the bolt at the top of the coilover assembly (the part in the engine bay) tightened...but the problem is, turning the bolt turns the entire surrounding metal ring, so it doesn't tighten. the only way to keep this from happening is to hold the silver part in the wheel well, but there's no way to hold it tight enough to keep it from turning.

sorry, i'm doing a crappy job describing the problem, but hopefully someone knows what i'm talking about. basically, we can't tighten the bolt up top without turning the whole metal part of the strut (no idea what it's called).

long shot...hopefully someone can chime in.

Default You either need ..>>

an impact gun which will make quick work of this, or special tools that alow you to hold the shock shaft while tightening the top nut..

You have to hold the flats on the top of the strut.

Default How do people do this without an impact hammer??

I know most people don't have em at home or anything...

Surprised though, you knew exactly what I was talking about. =P

Any other ideas people? I think we need to get creative on this badboy.

Default You should be able to get a wrench on these two flats...

Default If I recall correctly, it needs a 10 mm wrench. Then take your time tightening down the Nylox nut.

The final tightening I had to "guess" at, as there is no way to get a torque wrench on it while holding the flats. Even the Hazet set left me in the dark. They have the right shaped tools to hold the strut, but not at a large enough size. I am going to have one EDM'ed for me for future use, though...

Default Sorry, can't tell from the pic what you mean...

The only part i can see grabbing with a wrench actually ends up going on top of the bushing, making it impossible to reach from underneath. Can you please clarify?

Default The two flats, at the top of the strut, just under the adjustment "nib"... You do it all from the

top.

Does that help?
