Default You'd have to take a serious hit..>

to bend one. As to misalignment, the only adjustments are the slots at the base of the struts (ball joint)for camber. Everything else is fixed and bolted to the sub-frame... no adjustment exists.....What's it doing?

Default hit a piece of exhaust on the highway .... >>

pretty good hit. it went under the driver side wheel. i pulled over to see the damage but there was nothing external.

however, when i started to drive the driver side shock was bottoming out on every small bumb.

since then the shock was replaced and for good measure i had the car aligned.

presently the car seems to have a bit more play in the steering wheel as well as not feeling as tight.

it is hard to describe but i figure that mabye something else is bent.

any suggestions as to what to look for?

tia.

Default Alignment should have...>

picked up any additional damage like a ball joint or tie rod end. An incorrect alignment setting could cause the car to feel different (not enough toe in could cause the car to feel darty or loose..). Must have been a heck of a hit to blow out the shock!

Default Most 'common' damage is the end of the arm where the balljoint mounts to (3 bolts) can bent upwards

which is easy to see from the bottom. When comparing both sides, in this case your balljoint will also be bent. I think it's unlikely, since you need to hit with more of a side way motion. (i.e. hitting a curb at 40mph orso)
