cooling problem was in fact t-stat
Doug and I just finished replacing it. We didn't have to remove much, just a lot of painful squirming and dropping nuts and bolts through to the ground. Funny, I had a new t-stat replaced when I did my t/b 6k ago, but apparently it was defective? Now we're back to normal!
