Default damnit!!!!

okay, so i'm gonna rant a little bit...i just bought a '02 certified pre owned 225 TT a few months back...It started over heating so I took it back to the dealer, it's at 65k right now, so I need to get the timing belt and water pump replaced. I was hoping the heating issue had something to do w/ the water pump, that way I could just pay for the parts on the timing belt and have the dealer replace it while they were changing the water pump. I get a call from my dealer today saying that they just replaced the water pump, and the car is ready to be picked up. I asked them to call me when they found out what the problem was, but they didn't. Now I have to pay for the timing belt replacement out of my own pocket (which is what I was gonna do originally) so I guess it's not that bad. oh well, sorry, had to vent a little bit..oh yeah, I included a pic of my old B6 so more people would click on my thread

Default you traded the B6 S4 in for a 225? what do you think of the power difference?

I'm still considering doing the opposite....

I wish it was an S4, it was just a 1.8T A4.

Default ok...first of all...

you should've just wait for the tensioner to snap... BECUZ... CPO cars coverred if the tensioner snap or anything relate to the engine, given that you haven't add things to screw it up. You should've asked the dealer what's their take on the whole process before decided to buy all sort of things and "hope" that the dealer will just do it for you. Dealer isnt going to do JACK man... and if they do...THEY CHARGE!

Default Yep, let the tensioner go so you can have an engine rebuilt by Bubba instead of an original one

built by Hans in Germany. Not to mention the fact that it's attitudes like this that cause prices to go up and warranty's to go down. If you have the knowledge to know that it needs to be replaced at 60k and not 100k then use the knowledge to your advantage and prevent the damage.

The main issue most of us have with Audi's 105k recommendation is not to get them to pay for replacement or repair. It's to get them to admit there's an issue and to share that knowledge with people so they can do the proper preventative meaintenance at the correct interval so we don't have these engine's grenade. Waiting until it goes and having it covered under CPO or any other warranty leaves you with a rebuilt engine and an increase in warranty fees and a reduction in coverage.

Knowledge is power.

Default so...why buy a CPO or any source of extended warranty .. please share your thought

and if i remember correctly...everyone on here said "don't worry too much and enjoy the car"... "it's not like the sky if falling, unless it rains"...
all i'm saying is:

given the knowledge that we know the tensioner craps out at 65k or somewhere in that interval, we have taken into our account (those that bought extended warranty or car that are CPO) figure that the job will cost lots of money so we buy the warranty to make sure that these cost will be covered by dealer/third party instead of the owner.

Default well...

I have read many threads on this forum where CPO cars were not FULLY covered when the belt snapped...also, even if they did, I wouldn't want a pretty much re built engine (depending on how extensive the damage is of course). I would have rather paid $750 for piece of mind and not worry about it. Also, I never said I bought anything before hand, I said I would pay for the parts on the timing belt while they were changing the water pump which needed to be replaced anyways under warranty. And I fully understand that the dealer charges, but alot of the cost on a timing belt/water pump change is the labor, but they were replacing the water pump anyways under warranty so most of the labor would have been covered under the warranty.
