Difference in tread depth between front and rear.
After a track weekend a few weeks ago I was left with 2/32 on the front and 4/32 on the rear. The RT-615's have 8/32 new. I swapped them to have the 4/32 on the front and the 2/32 on the rear. Enough for one more track day and I have a track day coming up in two weeks and was hoping to use the rest of these tires up then buy a fresh set.
The question! Last night I took a turn too tight and slightly damaged one of my rear (2/32) tires on the lip of the sidewall against a sharp curb. It looks more cosmetic than structural, but I don't want to risk it on the track. Should I buy two new 8/32 tires and put them on the front of the car just before the track day and wear them down to be closer to the 4/32 tires on the track? I want to buy my tires from Vulcan Tire or Discount Tires Direct, neither of which have tire shaving but are the best prices on the net.
