Does VAG-Com software only work with VAG-COM cable interface?

Does VAG-Com software only work with VAG-COM cable interface?

I tried to use it with a cable I bought on <A HREF="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/KKL-409-1-VAG-COM-VW-AUDI-OBD-II-USB-Interface-Cable_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43989QQitemZ45980 62183QQrdZ1">Ebay.</A>

I don't really need to use vag-com except for clearing a code or finding out what code it is throwing. So I downloaded the shareware and bought the OBD-II interface for it but it doesn't seem to recognize it.

This is the cable I used:

Ebay cables are hit or miss. Hear about as many bad experiences as you do good. But should work

if the cable isn't junk.

Hit or miss huh? hmmm...ok...I'll keep trying and if it doesn't work I'll be asking for a refund

I bought one of the opto-coupler versions and seems to work well........

Yours looks like it is USB, did you download the USB driver? and the proper older version software?

I got my cable from Alpha-Bid...

I have the software unlocked through Ross-Tech, and have even moved the activation from one computer to another. All the functions work - I could not be happier, and it saved me a good bit of cash. This is a good option if you use the software ONLY on one computer. If you want to use on multiple computers, you should go the full Ross-Tech route<ul><li><a href="http://stores.ebay.com/alpha-bid">Alpha-Bid eBay store</a></li></ul>
