Electrical Problem!!!
Thanks.
I had the same thing happen in a parking lot.
Your AC compressor ate itself. It pushed metal fragments through an overpressure relief and vented the complete charge. While this was happening, somewhere an electrical fault happened that does not involve any fuses.
You'll probably notice that not only does the fan not work, none of the enviornmental systems work either, including the external temp indicator on the instrument cluster. Your power mirrors and defroster won't work, nor will the seat heaters.
I've seen a dealer about this, they replaced the AC control unit and found no change, then suggested that I OK a $2K bill to repair the AC system and similar figure to investigate the electrical issue with a possible substantial increase in cost of labor involved. They couldn't seem to come up with a maximum figure when asked.. (Now really, how much does it cost to replace a wiring harness? Wouldn't that be a reasonable maximum?)
Oh, by the way, Does your radio code out and need to be replaced EVERY time the battery is disconnected? Mine does. Audi of America will replace the radio when it happens within 120 days of a replacement, but they won't figure out why it happens..
