Electrical problem....help (long)?
This started a few months ago. I noticed that my 2001 TTR would sometimes reset the time (I have replaced the battery once in 2003 or 2004), and that the trunk release would sometimes require more than a push on the remote. Then, I had the 80k service. Everything fine according to the stealer. Three days after the service, the "check engine" came on. Because I had an argument with the stealer, I did not want to go back. Car seems to behave normally anyway. Today I go out to buy some groceries, and when I return the car is DEAD. By dead I mean, no sign of electrical activity when turning the key, no opening the locks with remote, etc. Call the tow truck. While waiting, opened the engine lid and checked out the battery and main fuses. Everything seems normal, but I notice the battery cable seems flimsy (as if it were broken near the battery where it makes a sharp angle). I also think (perhaps I imagined) that I heard a noise (like relays closing) when I touched that cable. Anyway, I close the lid .... and the car works again.
So, I am going to take a closer look at the battery cable. Perhaps a battery replacement is in order. And a visit to the stealer, maybe the "check engine" needs to be taken seriously.
Any opinion?
